How we source these — straight

Henley Power manufactures BESS in-house at our Dezhou facility. For power infrastructure — transformers, substations, ring main units, switchgear — we use a multi-factory sourcing model: equipment selected from verified IEC-certified manufacturers per project, based on voltage class, certification requirements, and delivery slot.

Henley Power is the prime contractor and warranty obligor — the EPC deals with one counterparty. That’s the same single-counterparty structure European tier-one OEMs use when sourcing sub-components. What changes is the engineering: we pre-pair the T&D to the BESS at specification stage.

Why one supplier for T&D + BESS

One contract. Four product families. The BESS pairing included.

Verified IEC-certified factories · Multi-supplier pool

Equipment Matched to Your Project Spec

We work with multiple verified manufacturers across each family. Selection is per project — voltage class, certification requirements, local grid standards, and delivery slot. We don’t push a single factory’s catalogue on every project.
One contract · One warranty obligor · One European contact

Single Procurement for Full T&D Scope

Transformer, substation, RMU, and switchgear in one supply agreement. One set of commercial terms, one warranty signatory, one point of escalation. The co-ordination overhead between separate T&D vendors disappears.
European service desk · 9-region service network

European Service Spine for Project Lenders

Commercial and warranty obligations sit under Henley Power, with European projects serviced from Romania. One accountable counterparty — that’s what makes the warranty bankable for project lenders.

BESS-Paired Engineering at Spec Stage

Transformer, MV switchgear, and RMU pre-paired to the BESS at specification stage — not resolved on site. Power factor, grid-forming capability, and protection coordination confirmed before the container ships.
Why we pre-pair T&D to the BESS

Three-stage pairing. Completed before the container ships.

We always supply T&D equipment for our BESS projects — it’s part of the grid-connection engineering, not a separate scope. The pairing runs three stages, all completed before the BESS ships.
Stage 1 — Power & Voltage

Sizing for Power Factor

We start with the BESS rated power and the grid voltage at the point of common coupling. From those we calculate transformer kVA with power factor margin, vector group for grid synchronisation, and tap range for the operating voltage envelope.
Stage 2 — Grid-Forming

PCS Coordination

Henley Power BESS containers ship grid-forming as standard. Transformer and MV switchgear protection are pre-coordinated to the grid-forming PCS — short-circuit behaviour, fault current contribution, and re-synchronisation sequence confirmed at spec stage. EPCs receive a pre-coordinated relay setting sheet.
Stage 3 — Grid Code

Frequency, Fault Ride-Through, Harmonics

ENTSO-E network code compliance — frequency response (P/f droop), fault ride-through (LVRT/HVRT envelopes), harmonic limits per IEC 61000 — checked against the project’s TSO-specific connection conditions. TSO qualification (50Hertz, TenneT, RTE, Energinet, Fingrid, Transelectrica, etc.) confirmed per project at commissioning.

Where this platform deploys

Six commercial buyer verticals deployed.

Each vertical sizing example below assumes typical European C&I load profiles. Final cluster sizing depends on metered load data, tariff structure, and backup requirements.

Small Offices & Retail Stores

Office buildings under 2,000 m² and retail stores draw 20–60 kW base load with afternoon peaks. A 3-module cluster (96 kWh, 768 V class) covers a typical retail demand-charge cycle on a 100 kW connection. PV self-consumption mode absorbs rooftop export during business hours. Payback depends on the local demand charge tariff — but the indoor IP21 enclosure fits most utility rooms without civil work.

EV Charging Hubs

Highway and urban DC fast-charging hubs with three to six 150 kW chargers see instantaneous grid spikes that trigger demand penalties or require grid reinforcement. A 6 to 9 module cluster (193–290 kWh) buffers those spikes — the battery discharges during charging events and recharges between sessions. For 350 kW HPC hubs, cluster sizing scales with simultaneous-charging load. DC-coupled deployment minimises conversion losses.

Supermarkets & Food Retail

Supermarkets run 24/7 refrigeration loads of 80–200 kW baseline plus checkout, lighting, and HVAC. A 6-module cluster (193 kWh) handles evening demand charges on a 250 kW connection while holding capacity for refrigeration backup — typically 30 to 60 minutes of hold-up. ToU arbitrage runs daily on the refrigeration baseload. Sizing depends on store class and local tariff.

Cold Storage & Cold Chain

Cold storage warehouses up to 1,500 m² and refrigerated logistics hubs need continuous power for chambers and dock systems. A 10 to 15 minute outage spoils inventory — there’s no buffer. A 3 to 6 module cluster (96 to 193 kWh) runs continuous ToU arbitrage on refrigeration baseload and switches to backup on grid loss. Hold time depends on cluster size and load.

Telecom & Edge Infrastructure

Telecom base stations, edge data nodes, and small ISP hubs need 24/7 power continuity for 5–30 kW loads. A 3-module cluster (96 kWh) provides 3 to 12 hours backup at full load — longer at partial loads. Daily ToU cycling on the active grid connection generates economic return alongside the backup reserve. Indoor IP21 fits standard telecom enclosures; DC-coupled deployment with site rectifiers is the most common architecture. Henley Power supplied T&D scope on the Chad PV-storage-diesel microgrid (commissioned 2024). IEC-certified equipment at Chinese manufacturing cost. 35–45 day delivery versus 12–20 weeks from European OEM suppliers.

Small Industrial & Manufacturing

Workshop-scale metalworking, plastics, and light manufacturing facilities draw 100–400 kW with sharp process-driven peaks. A 6 to 15 module cluster (193–483 kWh) covers demand-charge management on a 500 kW connection and provides 15 to 45 minute backup for critical processes. PV self-consumption pairs naturally with rooftop solar on manufacturing roofs. Sizing depends on process load profile and backup criticality — we don’t publish a one-size answer here.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions from EPCs, utilities, developers, and project finance teams evaluating Henley Power.

Specifications, sourcing, warranty, deployment, bankability — answered directly, with the numbers and references buyers need for due diligence and tender response.

What voltage classes of power transformer does Henley Power supply?
10 kV, 35 kV, 110 kV, and 220 kV for power transformers. Substations and RMU to 40.5 kV. MV switchgear at 12 kV and 40.5 kV. LV switchgear at 0.4 kV. Voltage classes outside this range sourced on request via verified IEC-certified manufacturers.

Equipment is manufactured to IEC 60076 (power transformers), IEC 62271-200 (metal-enclosed switchgear), IEC 62271-1 (HV switchgear), and IEC 61439 (LV assemblies), which form the basis of most European national grid codes. Country-specific compliance review — ANRE Romania, ANRE Moldova, ENTSO-E connection conditions — is part of our pre-order specification check, validated at commissioning.

One year minimum standard manufacturer warranty on all equipment, extendable to two years at no cost for DFI-financed and institutionally-backed tenders. Warranty contracted under Henley Power — we’re the warranty obligor, not the underlying factory. Warranty insurance via licensed European insurer is available as a project option for DFI-financed and institutionally-backed tenders. Parent guarantee or escrow alternative on request.

Henley Power services European projects from Romania and operates a 9-region service network covering EU, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, West Africa, North Africa, East Africa, Southern Africa, and LATAM. European customers reach a single sales and engineering desk in Romania for commercial, technical, and warranty matters.
Yes — we always supply T&D for our BESS projects. The transformer, MV switchgear, and RMU are pre-paired to the BESS at specification stage: power and voltage sizing for power factor, grid-forming PCS coordination, and protection relay settings are confirmed before the BESS container ships. The EPC doesn’t resolve pairing on site.
LV switchgear: 21–28 days ex-factory. RMU and MV switchgear: 28–45 days. Box-type substations: 35–45 days. Power transformers: 35–60 days (capacity-dependent; 110 kV and 220 kV at higher end). Sea freight from China to Romania approximately 30 days. Air freight available for urgent requirements at additional cost.
No formal minimum order. Henley Power has supplied single units for project-critical equipment and full substation packages for utility-scale tenders. For single-unit orders below approximately €15,000, the per-unit logistics cost can reduce the price advantage over European sourcing — confirm the commercial case at inquiry stage.
Chinese-manufactured IEC-certified equipment through a European supply agreement runs substantially below European OEM pricing on equivalent IEC class. The engineering differentiation is the BESS-pairing: European OEMs ship the transformer and leave impedance matching and protection coordination to the EPC. We complete both at specification stage.
Yes. Henley Power supplied T&D scope including step-up transformer and MV switchgear on the Chad PV-storage-diesel microgrid, commissioned 2024. Equipment was specified for Sahel ambient conditions and off-grid frequency control. Documentation package available for sub-Saharan and North African EPCs on request.
